Fred Wesley is the legendary trombonist and author best known as the bandleader on whom James Brown relied for orchestrating all those funky horn hits and licks. For nearly 30 years he has led his own jazz-funk band, the New JBs, a group whose mastery reflects the very definition of tight. Recognized as a progenitor of hip hop through his sampled work with Brown and Parliament-Funkadelic, Fred also is part of the Generations Trio organ jazz unit and the klezmer-flavored musical mashup that is Abraham Incorporated.
